Can you get pregnant on your period ?

 
Yes, it  is possible to get pregnant if you have a shorter menstrual cycle. You may be wondering how this can occur.  If you have a shorter cycle such as 21 days ,it means ovulation occurs earlier in the cycle. Sperms are able to live up to  5 days after ejaculation. This means if you have sex towards the end of your period, you can  conceive 4 to 5 days after with your early ovulation. Even though it is possible to get pregnant during your period, the possibility is low.

Can you get pregnant right before your period ?

 
The likelihood of getting pregnant right before your period is extremely low. If you have a typical 28 to 30 days menstrual cycle, you can safely assume  that ovulation takes place between the eleventh ( 11 )  and twenty first ( 21 ) day of your cycle.  The egg is available for only 12 to 24 hours for conception. This means that days right before your period are safe for having sex without expecting to conceive.  You should note that  the number of safe days before your period goes up with longer cycles and lessen with shorter cycles.

If you know when ovulation occurs, you can wait 36 to 48 hours after ovulation to go beyond the possibilities of conception. The further away you are from ovulation , the lesser your chances of getting pregnant. This is not the  time to have sex if you are trying to conceive.

Can you get pregnant right after  your period?

 
Yes , you can get pregnant. This is actually the time when you are moving towards your fertility window. If you have the typical 28 to 30 day cycle, your fertility window is between day 11 and   day 21. You should note that sperms can live up to 5 days. So if  you stop bleeding on day 6, have intercourse on day 7, and you ovulate on day 11, then it is possible to conceive. Chances of getting pregnant increases with each day after your period has stopped. This is a good time to start having sex if you are trying to conceive.
