Once in a lifetime you meet someone who changes everything. That someone was my miracle Taylar, who made her debut on January 31st, 2011, weighing 1 pound 6 ounces and looking so fragile and frail but to me, she was the greatest masterpiece. Sometimes the littlest things in life takes up the most room in your heart. My heart was full of love for this little human who came sooner than we had planned. This was a great change in my life but like they say all great changes are preceded by chaos. At first, I cried, I was terrified, feelings of guilt took over me, wondering what I did wrong? How did I miss all the signs of preeclampsia? The “what if I had known more about pregnancy and its complications” phrase kept haunting me day and night. It was one of the lowest times of my life.
Through it all I kept my head up because I knew God gives the hardest battles to the strongest soldiers. Born at 26 weeks my baby spent the first 6 months of her life in and out of the hospital. It was a roller coaster of emotions and events – from triumphs to near death experiences. It was a difficult road, but they often lead to beautiful destinations. Sometimes I prayed for a miracle but when I looked at my daughter, I knew I created one. Though she be little, she was fierce – fearfully and wonderfully made. She is a warrior, she is a fighter, she is my hero. Some people get to meet their heroes, I gave birth to mine and her name is Taylar -Marie Asmah. I am Jeanne Abayie – a proud NICU mom and this is my story
