Deodorant and antiperspirants during pregnancy

You need to take a close look at the label of your favorite deodorant now that you are pregnant.  You want to avoid parabens. These  are preservatives that have been linked to birth defects.  You also want to stay away from other ingredients such as

  • PEG 20
  • propylene glycol
  • triclosan
  •  sodium benzoate

Anything  containing synthetic fragrance may also not be a good idea.

There is also a big issue with antiperspirants.  They contain aluminum – based compounds that prevents you from sweating. This compound is believed by some to be potentially cancer causing. However more research needs to be done on that.

Talk to your doctor if you have concerns about your deodorant during pregnancy .
