WHAT IS A RAINBOW BABY

A rainbow baby is a baby born after losing a baby due to miscarriage, infant loss, stillbirth or neonatal death. Rainbow babies are considered miracle babies. This is due to the powerful impact they have in helping their parents deal with their loss.

The name rainbow gained popularity in the baby loss community. It symbolizes hope, healing and something beautiful after a dark, turbulent time.

Most people who lose a baby will get pregnant again. Your body takes time to heal but your mental state will take the longest to heal. Expecting again brings a roller coaster of emotions such as guilt, relief, excitement and sadness. It is okay to feel all those emotions. You might also want to keep the pregnancy to yourself until its out which is also okay.

Take care of yourself and your baby by doing the following :

  • Eat healthy, nutritious food.
  • Take your prenatal vitamins.
  • Keep up with your prenatal visits.
  • Avoid stress.
  • Do not smoke.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol.
  • Get enough rest.

NOTE

August 22 is Rainbow Baby Day. You can commemorate this day by sharing your story on social media, with friends, in a support group.
