Acetaminophen and pregnancy

 

It is okay to use acetaminophen during pregnancy . It is the most commonly used medication during pregnancy . Even though it hasn’t been well studied in pregnant women, it has been used for decades and is recommended by health care providers for pain and fever during pregnancy.

Fever can be risky to the developing baby during pregnancy. Doctors  recommend taking acetaminophen if your   fever is 101 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.

 

CAUTION

You have to make sure  to take the recommended dose on the label. Taking too much can result in liver failure in both you and later in pregnancy , in your baby .

 

There have been some research linking taking acetaminophen during pregnancy to with behavioral problems such as  ADHD  in children. The effects were strongest in parents who use acetaminophen extensively especially in later pregnancy. More research is needed to confirm the link. It is there recommended that you do not use more than the recommended dosage .

 

Check with your doctor when ever you want to take any over the counter medication during pregnancy especially those with multiple symptoms remedies .  These remedies may contain a host of other medicines that may not be safe to use during pregnancy .

 

You also have to know that while some medications  such as acetaminophen are safe to take during pregnancy. Not all pain killers away.  Avoid ibuprofen and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin during pregnancy .
