What do i do about my child’s missed vaccination ?

If your child misses  his vaccination , you do not have to start all over again. If he  misses  a particular immunization such as diphtheria, tetanus , acellular pertussis or hepatitis B  which are given in a series of doses, you just pick up on the from where you left off.

At the next doctor’s visit, your child can continue with where he left off until he is caught up.

CAUTION

Even though it is possible to get your child to get his  missed vaccinations, it is highly recommended that  you follow the schedule.  These vaccines protect your child against diseases and helps him to  build immunity against them. Some vaccinations  may need to be repeated because immunity for some disease wears away with time.

Missing a vaccine means your child is not protected against that disease until he gets it. It is therefore safe for the child to get the vaccine on time.

Your doctor may recommend a combination vaccine that provides immunity against several disease in just a single shot.

It is important to keep your child’s immunization record to help you keep up with immunization due date. You will also need this record for school admissions.
