After you deliver your baby, you will have  to seen by the doctor or midwife from 4 to 6 weeks postpartum.  During this postpartum checkup, the doctor or midwife will check on your delivery and how you are faring emotionally. It is important to go to the prenatal checkup even if you’re feeling fine. If you have a cesarean delivery, your doctor will want to see you  2 weeks after you give birth to check on the cesarean incision. Most cesarean incisions  heal with no problems at all but some get infected.  This visit is a good time to talk to your doctor about any questions or concerns.
 

 

What should you expect at a postpartum checkup ?

This is what you should expect at your postpartum appointment .

• you health care provider will discuss birth control with you
• you will go over your birth, how you delivered and how you are feeling in general like any physical symptoms you are experiencing such as contractions, breast changes, bleeding, aches and pain
• he will ask you about your emotional health. That is how you feel about the baby, how the family is adjusting and your mental state
• your health care provider will check on any medical conditions you have such as high blood pressure or diabetes
• you’ll get a pelvic exam to check your vaginal, cervix and uterus to make sure they are healthy
• you will have a physical exam to check your weight, breasts , belly and so on
• your provider will make sure your vaccines are up to date including pertussis and flu
• he will ask if your are breastfeeding or bottlefeeding
• he will let you know if it is okay to resume sexual relationships
• you will discuss your exercise options
• he will let you know what  foods and beverages are good for you especially if you are breastfeeding
