What types of breastfeeding resources  are available ?

There are various forms of resources available for breastfeeding moms. It may come from a mother who has successful breastfed her child or a lactation consultant who is trained to help moms with the most complicated breastfeeding issues. Some of the breastfeeding resources include the following :

Lactation Consultants/Breastfeeding Counselors: These people work with new moms. They are trained to offer help with initial breastfeeding support and problems.

Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) : A board certified consultant has gone through comprehensive training and board  testing to qualify as someone who can offer extensive support in the most complicated breastfeeding issues.

Hospitals usually have an IBCLC on the postpartum floor or may have a breastfeeding support center staffed with all these  types of lactation consultants.

Postpartum doulas : They assist families in the days and weeks after delivery. They are also trained to offer general breastfeeding support but can provide you with a list of breastfeeding resources if  any issue is beyond their expertise.

LaLeche League (LLL) : This organization supports and promotes breastfeeding through support groups led by other moms. Leaders of LLL are moms who have succesfully breastfed their own children. These women offer support and encouragement to other moms. They offer over the phone help and through community support groups who usually meet monthly.
