The postpartum time after delivery of your baby is approxiamately 6 weeks. During this time, your body returns to its pre pregnancy state. Your period will resume eventually. However the time of arrival for the period is different for each person.
 

 

The time frame of period return after delivery of a baby

 
The time frame for the return of your period is going to be different for every woman. If you are bottle feeding or combining breastfeeding and bottle-feeding, your first period would arrive in about 5 to 6 weeks. If you are breastfeeding exclusively, your period may not return until you stop breastfeeding. That is a way your body prevents additional pregnancy while you have a little baby.

When you start to breastfeed less, your  period will gradually return.  You may start spotting ( light and irregular menstruation  that presents itself as a spot of blood).

Some women do experience blood clots after delivery of a baby. This is not a cause for concern. However, if you continue to get  these clots in your blood for about a week or your period is heavier than you’ve ever had, you need to contact your doctor. Your period may return  while you are  breastfeeding. It will however be irrregular and light. You may skip menstruation  altogether and you may go months without a period.

When will i get fertile again after delivery of my baby ?

 
You may be able to get pregnant again soon after delivery. You have to note that you can get pregnant even though  your period has not returned. This is because the eggs get released (ovulation ) before your period shows up. You have to use contraceptives during sex  if you do not  want to get pregnant  again.

After the birth of your baby, menstruation  may be lighter or heavier than  normal. If your  menstruation   is  irregular or has not returned even though you are not breastfeeding exclusively, contact your doctor.
