How to manage teething symptoms without medications.

Teething toys

You can give your little one something that is cool to touch but tough to chew on. A wet wash cloth chilled in the freezer for about 15 to 30 minutes or a frozen banana if you’ve introduced solids are good options. You should also give your child solid, not liquid filled teething rings chilled in the freezer or fridge ( you have to take them out before they are frozen hard), a frozen bagel or a  “lovey”-type toy.

For babies 6 to 9 months and older

Give your child a slow flow sippy  cup with cool water to suck on and drink for comfort. Plastic teething rings with liquids are not recommended. This is due to recalls as a result of potential bacteria growing in the liquid and the possibility of a baby cutting through the ring and into the liquid.

Parents should try to avoid plastics due to the presence of phthalates/BPA. Use the washcloth method .Silicone and latex chewy toys may be a safer bet.

Fingers

You can let your baby gnaw on your clean fingers if her  teeth haven’t erupted.  You can rub your baby’s gum with your fingers for comfort.

Massage

If you are breastfeeding and your baby is more interested in chewing on your nipples or arm especially around feeding time, massage your baby’s gum with your fingers dipped in cold water before feeding her.

Clean teething toy and  wash cloths after each use. You have to know  that it is okay for your baby to chew all day if she enjoys it.
