Since the average period of gestation is 40 weeks, you are now officially halfway through your pregnancy. Congratulations! You must be feeling pretty good about it and your energy levels would be up by now. However, there would be some annoying symptoms still poking you around pregnancy week 20, but you won’t feel as bad about them, now that you’ve had a glimpse of your baby through the ultrasound.

How’s the Baby Doing At Pregnancy Week 20?

By pregnancy week 20, your baby will be the size of a banana, weighing about 10.2 ounces and measuring 6.5 inches in length. However, the baby has still got to do a lot of growing up before you are done with the other half of your pregnancy. By now, the baby would have fully developed working taste buds. The baby would also start gulping several ounces of amniotic fluid every day by this week, which will develop his/her swallowing instincts.

The Symptoms At Pregnancy Week 20

The pregnancy symptoms you will most likely experience during week 20 are:
• Increase in vaginal discharge; it’ll continue to increase till delivery.
• Mild swelling and shortness of breath, which would subside after delivery.
• Having more leg cramps. Drink water and stretch to avoid these.
• Increase in energy levels and libido.
• Increase in heartburn and indigestion.

What to Do?

Since it’s the midway of your pregnancy, you should get a mid-pregnancy ultrasound and also get the baby’s sex checked if you want. If you are having too many varicose veins, you can consider getting support tights or stockings. If you haven’t booked ante-natal classes, now is the time to do so. Make sure you don’t lift heavy weight and do care for your back.
