Holidays are time for fun but having an active child around can be overwhelming . There are so many accidents that can occur if you are not vigilant with the little ones running around. Small part of toys, hard candy , candles and breakable ornaments can be dangerous when used during the holidays. However there are ways to stay safe.

Holiday hazards and how to avoid them

 

Fire : It is important to make sure that all fire menorahs and candles are out of reach. You may even decide to forgo candles is you wish. Use fireplace screen if you decide to spend sometime in front  of a roaring fire. Makes sure matches and hot pokers are out of reach.

 

Electrical cords :You should hide these  behind furniture to prevent people from tripping on them. You can also buy a hide the cord device.

 

Toys : It is important to get age appropriate toys for your kids. It is important to make sure that they are not made of small parts that put kids at risk of choking . Keep an eye on small pieces such as button batteries that may be included in the electric toys.

 

Holiday plants : Keep holiday plants  such as poinsettia wrapped in a plastic foil and decorative ribbons out of reach of children . This could be a potential choking hazard. Keep the poisonous plants out of reach of children. These include  mistletoe berries, holly berry, and Jerusalem cherry.

 

Hot stoves : Keep children out of the kitchen during the holiday. To make it easier get them their own child-size pots and pans for more pretend kitchen play. They can easily cause accidents in the kitchen. You should also avoid putting food on an open oven top to prevent spills.
