Sneezing and allergies

Sneezing is often associated with allergies also known as hay fever or allergy rhinitis.  Other symptoms that may accompany allergies include the  following :

  • watery/itchy eyes
  • runny nose
  • nasal congestion
  • itchy nose

sneezing

Sometimes allergies trigger coughing and wheezing in a child with asthma. All these symptoms may also be seen with common cold. However a cold can cause fever which is not seen in allergies.

If symptoms occur during the fall season, it may indicate an allergy to ragweed or other weed pollens. Depending on where you live in the United States, the pollen season varies but typically weeds pollinate in late summer and early fall. Vegetation, rotting wood and outdoor mold spores found in the soil as well as rotting wood can cause allergy symptoms.

If you are worried about your child’s symptoms, contact your health care provider about your concerns.
