It is not true for identical twin . However fraternal twins can run in families. Identical twins come from the same fertilized egg. However in the case of fraternal twins, two different eggs are released at the same time . Even though they can have the same birthdays, fraternal twins are genetically no more alike than any other siblings. Releasing more than one egg in a cycle is known as hyperovulation.  That is a genetic trait that can be passed on from mother to child.

Hyperovulation can also happen for others reasons that has nothing to do with genetics. Women in their 30s are more likely to hyper ovulate than women in their 20s.

Identical twins on the other hand doesn’t run in families. The splitting of a fertilized egg happens at random. Someone who has had identical twins is no  more likely than  others to give birth to twins.
