Does bed rest help with preterm labor ?

Pregnant women with increased risk of complications  are monitored during pregnancy for premature labor. This monitoring may involve being on bed rest or even stay at the hospital. You may also be advised to stop working, reduce your activity or be on partial bed rest which is to spend most of your time resting.

There is no evidence that indicate that bed rest reduces your risk of preterm labor. However bed rest may increase your risk of blood clots in the legs and lungs. Some form of bed rest (partial bed rest)  is required by patients who are being monitored for complications.

If you are being monitored to reduce your risk of preterm labor, discuss your concerns with your doctor.

If you are resting or sleeping during late pregnancy , you need to lie on your side to improve blood flow to the uterus and fetus.

Stay well hydrated because dehydration can also trigger contractions.

It is essential to flex your feet, stretch and move your leg as much as possible.
